Sea Day 2 On the Way to Belem, Brazil – Not

The sea has been very rough, causing the captain to bring the speed way down. They tried to go at a normal speed in rough waters a couple of times in past years and broke the ship. These newer cruise ships have flat bottoms so that these large ships can get into the shallow harbors and the suites all have sliding glass doors. This makes them far more vulnerable to damage in high seas then the old ones with little port holes. Two years ago they had $150,000 in damage and last year they broke a stabilizer and a glass door while we were south of Australia. So we will miss Belem and go right on to the next port which is Fortaleza.

When we cross the equator we were supposed to have this wild party out on the pool deck. We did last year. But we are so far behind I don’t think we will cross until around dinner time and that is the one event that cannot be interrupted come Hell or High Water and this is just High Water and a celebration of Hell. It was a wild party last year with people getting stuff dumped on them and some getting pushed into the pool but it is far too rough to fill the pool now.

This evening we started off with a party in the main theater, for the entire ship, thrown by one of the passengers. He, Malcolm Meyers, does this every year. While talking to one of the officers he told us they would have the equator party at about 11:00 AM tomorrow.
