HONG KONG, CHINA DAY II

Stores open at about 10:00 AM. Can’t loose shopping time. So we were out just after breakfast. We had been here and had seen all the sights so this was just a shopping port. As if they are not all shopping ports.

We walked about two blocks just to get out of the shopping center building where the ship was docked. A little ways outside and around the corner is the Star building. First we went to the eye glass place we go to. Several pairs of glasses were ordered for both of us.

In the same building, is China Arts and Crafts. A very high class store full of over priced junk, I mean unique treasures. This is a large store with many items of different types of clothing, cloths, materials, and just about any kind of craft you can think of and some you could not. Everything has price tags like any department store but I bargain with them anyhow. We, or I should say she, bought so much stuff we had to have them deliver it to the ship.

Next the march was on to one of my favorite things to shop for. More #$@&%$# purses. That was several blocks and down a tunnel under a street. This one is in a rather ratty building just behind the Sheraton Hotel. It is on the second floor in a store space far smaller then Bobbi’s bathroom at home. In this tiny space, there were jammed about eight women fighting over purses besides the owner, his wife and three employees. There were also several other store spaces stuffed with this wonderful stuff. The employees would go running to bring more purses when requested. Bobbi’s “I’ll only be a few minutes” turned out to be about an hour. I fell asleep on a chair out in the hallway. When I awoke these women were still squawking about purses. I announced I was leaving and she could find her own way back. As usual she paid no attention as she was caring our only Hong Kong cash and she knew I wanted a cab to get back. Finally we left with only about six huge bags full. Outside we got a cab pretty quickly. It was at least ten times further to get back by cab because of all the one way streets. Here too, the cabs were pretty cheap. I think it was about $2.00 US. They drive some kind of special made Toyotas here. They have very large back seats and the driver presses a button and a back door opens.

After dinner we watched the skyline light show they do nightly. A bunch of the buildings have lighting and they flash laser lights. It wasn’t much and it was very smoggy. We then went across to the shopping center and walked around awhile ending up looking in the Toys R Us.

It was a tiring day from all the walking. When we got back, everything had been delivered to our room. There was now no room for people so we piled some of the stuff in the bathtub. Good thing we still have a shower or things could start to get a little stinky here.
