KATAKOLO, GREECE
We made an unscheduled stop today. We stopped at the same little town last year. The place is really very pretty. All it really is, is about six blocks long and mostly just three streets. The waterfront is lined with small restaurants with mostly outdoor seating. The rest is small shops selling most anything from tourist junk to designer clothes and jewelry.
This is the last of the surprise stops at the captains watering holes. We had to dock at some far away dock this year. The reason is still unknown. Last year we docked almost at the restaurants. This was now a long walk. There was supposed to be a bus to take those who could not walk that far. The bus did not show up at the ship until about 45 minutes after the ship unloaded. No one knew why. All the officers had to say was, “I don’t know.” When asked if they could find out, the answer was, “I don’t know”. When the bus did show it was already full and could not come down the dock to where the people were waiting. Again, no knew why.
Lunch was supposed to have been at three restaurants. I just grabbed a spot at the first one we came to. The food was fantastic. The deserts totally unbelievable. You gained three pounds from just the smell. The Greek people there are very nice. There were not nearly enough of them to serve so many people at the same time so people from the ship were helping. I think everyone enjoyed it. It was very nice.
I’m sure you could never guess what we did after lunch. Okay, I’m sure you really can. I quickly looked up and down the street and saw no stores selling tablecloths. So I told Bobbi she could not buy anything but a tablecloth. She only got one and we need another for the other house. She says okay and walks in the first store she sees and buys Greek ladies night shirts. They in no way can be confused with tablecloths. She is not to be trusted.
After a little walk we came upon a woman who looked familiar. She is American and is married to a Greek. We saw her last year and bought sugar free candy from her. We talked awhile and found she now also had another store right next door. She was selling designer jewelry. She had gone to school to learn the craft and now was carrying some of the things from a local designer that sells to Neiman Marcus. The specialty was crystal set in 18k gold. The rear of the crystal is etched with a design. One we saw was a ring. It has a design that looks like it is fogged into the crystal and behind it is pink except where the design is. You would have to see it. And of course you will be able to. Oh, she just has to have that. I am not talking dime store junk here. I’m talking Neiman priced junk. No problem. Out pops the credit card. I suppose it will now be a dead give away if she turns up missing at sea.
We had a great time and loved the town. We got back on the ship and left at about 4:30.
Yesterday I gave the wrong information for this blog on the internet. The correct place is: 2007worldcruise.blogspot.com
