SEA DAY ENROUTE TO CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA

As usual, sea days are not too exciting. This was a good time to rest up from the previous day of continual running. We are due into Cape Town at about 2:00 tomorrow afternoon. This is the end of the first segment of the world cruise and many will be getting off. There was a farewell party, just before dinner, for those leaving tomorrow.

About the most exciting thing we did today was eating. They saved some of the better food for today. That is what you are supposed to remember.

For lunch we had Steak Tartar in the main dining room. Bobbi says the peanut butter ice cream was just as special. The sugar free éclair wasn’t bad either.

Dinner was even better. We started with foie gras. The really good stuff. Bobbi had two. Next I had the caviar. To finish the appetizers I ended with gravlox. This year they have the best nova and gravlox. Last year was not so great but this stuff is as good as it gets anywhere.

For the main course we had the problem of choosing from Lobster, shrimp, lamb chops and chateaubriand. Oh, decisions, decisions. Bobbi did the lamb chops and being undecided I had the lobster and the chateaubriand. Our waiter knows I frown upon tiny portions. He does not like me to frown. To keep that from happening, he does not bring small portions. He said the lobsters were a little small this evening, so he brought me three of them. I gave one to Bobbi. They were so sweet they had to be feeding them sugar.

It was the final night for our comedian, Kenny Smiles. They had been doing shtick, on the ships TV, with him all week. The captain and Jamie were supposed to be begging him to do one more show.

Last year they had sent him off the ship in a dingy, in high waves, with a plunger on his head. They were trading him to the captain of a car carrier ship for a sack of Norwegian fish. He was sent back because they said he was not worth a sack of fish. Now he was getting even.

The captain had to act as a waiter and Jamie had to put on a wig and a skirt and act as the waitress. They then had to serve him a meal. Another day the captain had to give him a manicure while Jamie, wearing a gasmask, gave him a pedicure.

When he came on stage this evening, for his final performance, the captain had to push him out on a giant throne. At the end of the show Jamie had to come out in drag again. He was wearing a very high blonde wig, heels and a skirt slit way up too far. The show was great again and we will miss him.

I’m sending more pictures from Namibia.
